Pet License - New and Renewal

*Please be aware of the following license requirements while residing in Howard Lake:
To summarize, there are four (4) sections of City ordinances that pet owners must comply with:

  • Chapter 22 Section 3, Howard Lake Zoning Ordinance – The keeping of more than three (3) dogs and/or cats over six months of age within a residential dwelling unit shall be prohibited.
  •  Chapter 14.01 Section 2, Howard Lake City Code – The running at large of pets within the City of Howard Lake is prohibited and considered a nuisance. It is also a nuisance for any dog, or cat, to habitually cry or bark, to chase vehicles, to molest or annoy any person away from the property of his owner or custodian, or to damage, defile or destroy public or private property.
  • Chapter 14.01 and 14.02 Section 3 & 4, Howard Lake City Code – All pets must be licensed through the City of Howard Lake after the age of 6 months. Licenses are available at City Hall and are $5.00 per year/per pet. Licenses expire on Dec 31st of each year. Proof of up to date vaccines must be provided. If registered the owner will receive a reminder in the US Mail.

Pets found running at large or otherwise out of compliance with licensing or code requirements may be taken to the animal shelter and appropriate fees may be due. Any person convicted of violating any provision of this ordinance may be guilty of a misdemeanor.

New Pet Registration - $10 per pet. | Yearly Renewal - $5 per pet. | Payment must be received within 3 business days
